Last week I went to Manila and have Sole Box Foundation registered as a Non-Governmental Organization in the Philippines. It was placed under a provincial license because I aim to operate on its first year on the Southern Tagalog Region. I asked my mom a few days ago if I can use her sister's house who died a few years ago as an office and she agreed. I also asked some of my friends to help me spread the word.
Even though we are still not yet fully operational, some friends have already expressed their willingness to help and have already donated some of their shoes in the Sole Box Foundation.
In 4 days, we have already collected a total of 123 pairs of shoes. Some of them are not in totally good condition so we still need to take them to the repair shop next week. Most of the shoes that were donated are for girls, a proof girls are all a little Imelda Marcos in their own small ways. I guess we need to have some more shoes for boys because most of the kids on the street who wears nothing on their feet are males.
I've also contacted some friends living in the nearby provinces if they can help find people who can donate and look for a place in their provinces where street children needed shoes badly.
Our municipal Mayor have also expressed her willingness to work with us. Yay! Perhaps its because I'm doing a show for the municipal cable. By the way, the show we did about fashion shoes last week was aired last Saturday in the local cable channel. We had a terrible viewership of just 11% haha. I don't think it's bad at all considering its our first show, our first airing and we only promoted it for less than a week.
We lack in promotion that's why, but I'm pretty sure this coming Saturday we'll have more viewers. Anyway, please share with us the advocacy to help shoe less children. Wherever you are, instead of throwing your shoes because of minor defects or just because its out of style, just give it to street children instead.
By the way, we're still thinking of a good slogan for the Sole Box Foundation. Got any idea?
