Finally, after a month long shoe collecting and shoe repairing tasks, Sole Box Foundation Philippines was finally able to conduct its first ever outreach program last Friday, in 2 schools and 2 slum areas in Silang and Dasmariñas, both towns of Cavite province.
I am quite happy with the outcome of our first outreach, as we were joined by 8 foreign volunteers. We are only expecting a total of 25 volunteers but we grew in to a total of 40 on the main day. Thanks to those who helped us! Your works are highly appreciated.
For that particular day, we have given out a total of 1,354 pairs of shoes. That means we have served the same number of kids with 'new' shoes. Yay! Most of the kids we've given shoes are ages 7-11 and are in elementary. Those kids living in the slums who were not able to go to school were also given shoes for daily use. My father tapped me on my back that day. That means an OK sign from him. Seriously, I was trying to get my parents' approval for this foundation and I finally have it.
I was in a bit dizzy and not so well condition that time that I wasn't able to helped a lot in the event. I was just sitting there watching the event go for most of the time. I participated in the morning though, with taking sizes of the kids' feet.
We also have with us 200 school bags with 10 notebooks, a pencil, eraser and a small English inside it. We know it they are not enough to supply all the kids so we just decided that we'll hold a game for the kids, and those bags will be the prize.
It's really seeing kids enjoy and all wearing a smile. They kinda inspire me to do more of these. Our next outreach program will be Friday of next week, not this week, and hopefully we can maintain a twice a month outreach program.
The Sole Box shoe donation boxes are still out there in their locations. Now we have also put more boxes outside Cavite. With the help of a friend, we managed to put boxes in cities of Parañaque, Taguig and some parts of Pasay.
