We've had the finest joke just before 2008 ended when an Iraqi journalist threw both of his shoes right in front of then US President George W. Bush. And as if we have recovered from the funny incident, here's another issue of face vs. shoes dispute. This time, the shoes were in the face, literally. Just a few minutes ago, the 44th President of the United States of America has officially been inaugurated as the new president of the most powerful country in the whole wide world. President Barack Obama is making history for being the first Afro-American to be seated as president of the US. I'm currently watching the live coverage of the inauguration via Hulu.com and I'm quite amazed at how large the crowd is and the number of powerful people . Reports said that an estimated 2 million people gathered for this historical event, the transfer of power in a peaceful manner from one president to another. Year 2009 is here. For shoe lovers, it means it still yet the start of another "shoes trend" as what have been dubbed as an annual tradition of shedding your old shoes. Although this is certainly not applicable to me because I value my shoes too much and I rarely change shoes, most people are into this kind of expensive devotion for trendy shoes. According to a lot of fashion masters around the world, the fashion shoe trend for 2009 will be composed of nee designs to be introduced and a couple of old ones that will be revived for this year. Sounds like an interesting way save those money allotted for new shoes. Last December 25, the morning of Christmas, Sole Box Foundation Philippines did another outreach program in the province of Cavite in the Philippines. About 300 pairs of shoes were given to little kids in the remote town of Alfonso. The event went great and the smile from the face of the kids were enough evidence. Even though 300 pairs are obviously not even half of our first shoe give away, it's still fulfilling to see those 300 kids went home with a smile. Sole Box will also be featured in the local monthly magazine, Tambuli, for their January 2009 issue. I was was sent a list of questions about a week ago for me to answer, all regarding the foundation. Also, yesterday a prominent family in my town donated 50 pairs of shoes to our shoe foundation. Thousands of shoes were accidentally dumped along an expressway in Miami that caused significant delays in traffic flow. The "lost soles" blocked at least two lanes of the expressway. City workers took part to clear at least one of the lanes. Officials said that the owner of the truck that carried the shoes, if he/she comes forward, will pay hefty cleaning costs. All the shoes will be donated by the foundation Soles for Souls to some of the neediest people worldwide. Link: cbs4.com - Thousands Of Shoes Dumped On Miami Expressway
